There’s no suck thing as a “shocking” divorce when literally half of marriages in this country fail.

That’s like saying you experienced a “shocking” loss of the $100 bill you put into a slot machine.

My FIL’s best friend was always so lovey dovey with his wife, and laid the PDA on so thick that we were all shocked when he was revealed to be having an affair. He left her for his AP so suddenly and coldly.

I’m shocked by every divorce I know in real life. I never see them coming, naively believe that people who act like a couple in public are doing fine.

A good friend of mine got divorced and it was shocking to me because that marriage always seemed the strongest in my circle. I have known this friend for 25 years and they had been married for almost 20 years.
The couple had all these inside jokes, common interests, co-parented well, had no money issues, and seemed genuinely tight. The husband had a long-term affair and the marriage imploded when the wife found out. As I came to learn about the situation, I realized that there was a lot I didn't know about that marriage and the couple had been slowly drifting apart for years and had conflicts that my friend never mentioned. You just never know what's going on in someone else's marriage.

Anytime someone "comes out" as part of their divorce it is shocking. In hindsight, it ends up explaining a lot.

Do you mean Reese Witherspoon? That was ages ago, she got re-married, had a kid, and divorced since her marriage to Ryan.

It's not all that surprising since they were early 20s and only got married because Reese was pregnant.

No, most divorced couples I know had lots of issues prior to divorce. However I’ve been surprised to learn when friends tell me they were previously married. I don’t find out until many years of knowing them and they seem to have strong marriages.

Did she marry the boss

The wife was online dating and had multiple affairs—which was shocking because she projected a completely different persona to the world. SAHM and loving wife, super homemaker. She was big on social media with lovey dovey photos. It was a shock because it was a long marriage.
