This isn't true. Don't answer questions if you don't know the answer. This is a terrible career plan. They can start teaching sped right away, OP just work with HR they'll help.

Anonymous wrote:Thanks for this information. I would love to become a special education teacher - I really love those kids and want to help. And yes, I know it is a ton of paperwork (good at bureaucracy) and also they can never do as much as would be good.
But when I look at the jobs on the website, all the special education jobs require a lot more experience/credentials than the regular jobs? So....that doesn't seem like a good way to enter the system?

Thank you!

So...if you can get a job......you can get a conditional license even if you haven't done a teacher preparation program. And then you can do Moreland TeachNow or other way to get the coursework within the 2-5 year time frame. Is that correct?
Thanks for the help with this!
Correct. Moreland is intense but paid for and the quickest way, some opt to just get their masters in education over 2 or so years with mcps reimbursing some but not all, but then you don't have to worry about it later and you're in the next salary lane. A word to the wise, reddit is better for employment advice, this site is filled with really bitter people for the most part.
