To clarify, I think you mean St. Louis University (SLU), not Washington University in St. Louis (WashU, which is highly selective).

+1. WUSTL is more comparable to Northwestern, Emory, Duke, or Vanderbilt, not Villanova or Providence or Fordham. St. Louis University is in the latter category.

If sports is a criteria than ever other school in the Big East excluding UCONN and Georgetown would fit the bill. Villanova is not Jesuit either.

I went to USD and have a child at Villanova. In the grand scheme of things, I would say they are pretty similar. I think it's a great suggestion.

Marquette for another Jesuit schools west of Colorado and north of VA. If willing to go all the way to West Cost, also consider LMU and University of San Diego

Villanova is not a liberal arts college. It has over 10,000 students and is seven times larger than St Mary's. It has six colleges, including a law school and an engineering school. It has big time sports programs.

Lots of schools are "good at science." That alone doesn't make two schools similar.

Agree with Providence and St. Joe’s and Fairfield. I don’t know much about Loyola MD or Loyola Chicago (but generally admire the Jesuit approach to education).

Maybe also St. Louis University (not WUSTL).

If you’d go west-er, Santa Clara and Gonzaga.
