I don't know the point what OP is saying, but I get that there are a lot of people where the increased gas prices really does impact their lives in a big way.

But there are a ton of others who can absorb the higher gas prices, but think they can't. They will complain about not being able to fill their tank on their way to a $100 dinner. It's all about where you put your money.

I don’t understand how people don’t understand how people can’t afford to go out.

Op - I'm guessing you've never lived paycheck to paycheck and have minimal savings.

Op my family of 4 went to dinner last night in DC. Our ticket consisted of two BBQ sandwiches with a side each, two BBQ platters with two sides each, and one beer. The tab before tip was $72. If you don’t understand how some people could have a hard time with that I don’t know what to tell you.

Man that’s insane. A few years ago, that meal would’ve been half that price.

The lack of critical thinking skills here, starting with the fact that gas prices aren't the only cost that has gone up... not to mention the seven other false premises implied by the OP.

Why? Everything is more expensive right now, not just gas. I just paid nearly $4 for a can of Progresso soup. That's crazy. I am a teacher and don't have much, if any, disposable income. I might go out once every two months or so but even then it is a stretch.

This post reeks of “let them eat cake. The poors just need to buckle up and find 2 jobs.”

A friend lost her job during the great recession, and is now still only making $20 an hour in her 50s. After paying for health care and health insurance, there isn't much left.

I make $20 an hour and my take home pay/day is about 70$. I am on my husband's health insurance so that is't even part of what is taken out. It's not much and doesn't go far.
