UVA/Tech. She will apply to UVA, H and I are both alums. But she likes UNC more (feels newer/more cohesive to her)
Newer? More cohesive?
I don't think it's totally rational. She basically grew up at UVA, so to her it feels that way. She liked UNC's central quad area surrounded by classrooms, and the newer building (it seems like half of UVA is under constructions at the moment).
Haha, I don't think any of our kiddos are totally rational at this age, which is why kids pick schools for various reasons, i.e., size, weather, location, school colors, mascot, they visited on a sunny day, they visited on a rainy day, football team is top 25, basketball team is top 25, lots of girls, lots of boys, it goes on and on. It's the annoying DCUM parents (many, not all) who push their kids to go to the "highest ranked" or "most prestigious" schools, often to assuage their own egos.
Please don't say "kiddos." It reads like nails on a chalk board.
And any in state VA student who goes OOS to a state college even as good as UNC instead of the very, very similar UVA is irrational and the parents even more so for throwing away money. UVA has everything that UNC does and then some, plus more diversity -- UNC has even fewer OOS students than UVA does.
But it"s your money, "kiddo."

The SAT is bottom of the SCHEV stats for UVA - she should retake - don’t count on going test optional if not hooked. Your DD’s GPA is at the bottom 25th percentile also for UVA. I hope legacy works for you OP, but I’ve seen so many legacies to UVA turned away … are you and your husband big donors? You undoubtedly know that UVA has some counselors who work with legacy applicants? Make that contact today and work it.

Then your state flagship is UofSC not Clemson, what is wrong with those schools?
USC is an urban school that feels nothing like UNC. The feel of Clemson is much closer
Surely you can take from the context PP meant University of South Carolina, not Southern Cal?
