Most likely, the kid was not actually ready earlier-it's not like they are ready and then at age 3, readiness expires and they become witholding, impacted pyschos.
That actually does happen. They get older and develop a preference for the way things are now (ie, their diaper). I’ve seen it happen, then it’s a long road back to willingness.
That’s what I have noticed too. They become more strong willed and decide what they want
This is why Oh Crap pushes to do it earlier. 3 year olds are willful and opinionated. MUCH More so than 20-26 month olds. If your 3 yo decides they don’t wanna potty train, they literally hold all the cards.

Doesn’t make it likely. Just more common, but not likely.

Yay for you. All kids are different, yet everyone ends up potty trained.
That’s actually not true. Toileting issues are quite common and some kids never achieve toilet independence.
