NP. The four to Maret is high (it is usually one or two), especially given how few Maret take at 9th.

I am not sure all/any of this is true for lower/middle school application.
We don’t receive FA, but are not able to donate much (usually $150-300). We both work crazy hours and have 3 young kids so we don’t volunteer much or at all. We have never met the head of school. Yet, our outplacement team told us our child will be able to choose from the top 3 schools in DC (Cathedral, GDS, Sidwell) because they are such strong students. It seems to be more about the student than the parents TBH (as it should be).

Not only that, there is a K-8 parochial school in my neighborhood that puts out yard signs for the schools their graduates matriculate. One for each student. They also happily include the MCPS high schools as well.

Suit yourself, but I have watched it play out year after year after year...

Of course, your DC has to be reasonably bright but if you want Sidwell from 4th onward out of BVR or you want HYP out of STA the road to that is paved with snagging the head on annual giving, volunteering your corporate law skills for FREE to the Board on some development project OR, better, a nasty legal problem that requires discretion or maybe raking in the highest ever intake in the FA Auction

The minor stuff PP listed ( $2,000 annual giving and volunteering at the school ) just keeps your place , it doesn't get you anything plum


Please don’t listen to the hyperbole of this post. I can’t assert to know that big donor kids don’t get preference or even what outcomes they receive but I can say with certainty that there are kids who went to HYP whose parents were not head of anything, for example. And I can think of plenty of heads of committees whose kids did not go to Ivy leagues (and that is no slight on them - I think the kids picked great schools!)

The bluster of this post is dishonest.

It got our daughter into a Big 3 school during a difficult entry year (and when the school got a record number of applications due to COVID) with no hooks.

Well, just looking at 10 of the DC area Privates:

* deliver on a BZA Variance for a construction project critical to the school comes to mind
* donating the funds that allow a school to shed a HOS discreetly with a nice golden parachute

At the web site there's an Archives section that allows you to go back through the May editions for several years.

I am not sure what you are asking but most of the K-8 Catholic Schools publish ads with their outplacement in the May edition of the Catholic Newspaper that you can pick up at the back of Church. It's also online. I think it's the Catholic Standard.
