This is why you don’t tell people your name choices BEFORE the baby arrives, especially to family members. If there’s no baby there, everyone feels fine sharing whatever opinion they have—good, bad and in between. But when you present the baby and say, “Here’s Heather. Would you like to hold her?” no one (hopefully, unless they’re incredibly rude) says anything negative.

I've always hated the name Heather for no reason whatsoever. Boy was I shocked when in my 20s my mother told me if she had had another girl she would have named her Heather.

I love the name.

Heather is such a lovely name. Simple, cool, no need for a nickname. Plus, it’s a nature name.

Just be glad it’s no longer as popular!

Yeah, that’s definitely not true. We named our DD an unusual name (not dated or weird, just not common), and people definitely commented on it well after she was born.

Screw those idiots - use a name that you like. I like the name Heather but my first has an H name, so I didn’t use it for #2.

Her name is Erica, which is similar in datedness and actually related to Heather. It fits her perfectly and fits right in among the Avas and Ellas

She was almost Veronica (the not-Heather in the clique)

Do you want yet another Zoe or Jack or Emma or Maya or Jona? I know two families with children named Max and Ava.
Zeitgeist names are the worst.
Heather is a perfectly fine name.

I am a 30 year old Karen. I never felt my name was dated, and loved it until the past couple years where it’s been ruined by the meme.

Not likely according to trends.

Oh, we considered heather for our 3 month old daughter! I think it’s a beautiful name and it’s ready for a comeback! Didn’t use it because it was my old boss’ name so it was a bit loaded for me.

I love it, OP, and I've never met a Heather I didn't like. Plus the plant is lovely so it has that nice connection with nature.

This is how my DH and I felt, too - we have a now- teenaged Heather.

Imo “dated” is better than trendy. I have a dated name but I like that it’s not as common among people my age

I think Heather is a beautiful name!

Name popularity is all about current fads, OP, and nothing more. I’d far rather have a “dated” name than a fad name.

Who in America doesn’t know that, PP?

You’d be surprised what millennials and gen z don’t know.
