Overhead bin space

I flew this past weekend and noticed in no case did any of the gates I flew out have adequate seating for the number of passengers waiting. Especially now with people trying to be polite and not sit on top of each other (even though they will on the plane).

Sometimes, there is simply no where else to go. You don't have a seat and the you don't want to stand in the way of people passing through in the terminal, so you stand in line.

The first 4. Also, the time I have relaxed (usually when I've checked a bag) I have almost missed my flight because I was too relaxed and missed the boarding call.

Flying is full of anxiety for most people. In general, I am a very laid back person. But I get a bit nutty at the airport, I will admit. I am always polite though. To everyone.

I do it all the time. Or I tell a flight attendant to gate check it to make room for mine. Just did that on Tuesday heading up to NY.

That’s fine. But it’s true. I have seen others do it too. I have directed flight attendants to move bags, especially if their owners are sitting back several rows.

Flight attendants are not bellhops. You can tell them to move bags around to your heart's content but there's zero chance they'd do it.

It's not really because a gate checked bag is so terrible to me. But it's mainly that I have CRAZY anxiety about getting on the plane, there not being any overhead space, and then having to try to GET OFF THE PLANE against the throng of people to go gate check my bag. It happened to me once and was the sweatiest most socially awkward thing. So I channel all my anxiety while waiting to board on this one thing! Hooray!

My DH is the most relaxed passenger ever, so there's that for balance.

There could be any number of reasons they're lining up early.

1. Overhead storage space gets used up and they don't want to lose it and have to gate check their bags.

Do you tell or ask a flight attendant to do that? Because if you tell them to do that, you are a jerk.

Wouldn’t the Bag owner point out their bag was there first? This is totally implausible. What if they had a tight connection? PP is in fantasyland.

OP I agree that it's a combination of factors including anxiety and desire to make sure their bags have space in the overhead bins. I used to also like to board early (in my case it was anxiety) but now I wait til the last minute as long as I have an assigned seat. I don't want to be on that plane any longer than I have to, personally.

Haven't you all seen the assholes who put their luggage in the overhead at the very front of the plane even when they're sitting at the back? It drives me crazy.

Why would you want to move some one else's big bag? Seems like more work then just dealing with your own.
