Spoilers-
However, the final episode was the pits (which is ironic since the theme of the final season was Deborah’s character wanting to out with a bang). The plotlines were ridiculously rushed and too neatly ribboned up (Hannah’s show being piloted? Deborah reconciling with her Vegas love interest and giving him a job? the last 3 minutes seeing “everyone” (except poor Marcus!) huddled up together with a cheesy “I couldn’t have done it without you” speech by Deborah?). And it had none of the strong points of Deborah and Hannah’s relationship which has been the backbone of the show. If you had told me the show was unexpectedly cancelled and that was the rushed final episode, I still would have been disappointed. But this show was intended to be wrapped up end of this season!
Compare this to another recent-ish HBO series Somebody Somewhere which had a fantastic wrap up while still paying tribute to most characters and the evolved relationships.
The final episode airs next week. This week’s is the one summarized above. Hopefully it will have a little more heft and heart to it.
