If you don’t mind sharing, where did your kid end up? My DC (with similar stats to OP) got into Lafayette for Environmental Studies without merit. We are trying to decide what to do.
Sewanee and did get some merit aid. Merit aid was a factor. Our kid also thought the 13k acre campus would be good for environmental studies, would prefer to settle in southeast after school, etc..... It turned out to be a good fit for our kid. We liked Lafayette a lot though.
I wish I had talked to my DD about Sewanee. I was worried it was too remote but I've heard a lot of great things about it. I'm not sure we can justify the extra $110k for Lafayette (and Bucknell) so I think my DD has narrowed down her options to Denison and Rollins. DD is disappointed but I think once she's in school, she won't look back (hopefully).

I have a kid that is very happy at one of the bolded three who absolutely hated Union, Dickinson, Gettysburg, and F&M when we toured. We never saw St Lawrence, or Trinity. To each, their own.
Why did he hate them?

I love Union, especially if you're a pre-med student. I believe they have a 8 year direct med school program?
My DD (who has since graduated from college) short listed LaFayette and Union college. She liked the culture at Union better and they have made real investments in the new science facility. The Union campus is also beautiful (the Nott building is at the center--you should look it up).
I would seriously look in to Union.

I would add Bucknell and University of Rochester. My 4.8 GPA 1480 SAT student was admitted to Lafayette, no merit aid.

My kid is engineering at Bucknell and loves it. Has tons of friends who have been with him since freshman year too. He knows a couple kids who left - two for larger schools, one who failed out, and a 4th who hated ROTC and couldn’t afford Bucknell without it so sadly left.

Why did Lafayette repulse your kid? Mine is seriously considering it for engineering.

Is Lafayette really like that? We toured and really liked it but we didn’t get much impression of the social scene on a weekday morning. GDI family.
