He has average grades and not certain of his path of study so we recommended community college first so he can explore and figure it out for a low cost. He wants to go to school out of state. So we said apply to probated out of state and qualify for financial aid. They applied to out of state public schools. We advised against Go Fund Me and I was checking here to see alternatives. It is good to know we can pay directly to the school.
Their decisions not make financial sense but we love our God son and want to contribute to his education as long as he stays in good financial standing according to his school and department’s standards.
Thank you for the information that we can request to be added as a payer to his school account. Just to be sure, that does not obligate us to any fees due correct? It just allows us to make payments if we choose?

I think a Go Fund Me is not the right vehicle. I think a 529 or as others have said getting your name added as someone who can send in money directly to the school and then send it directly to the school.

He had outstanding extracurriculars. Raised a widow's son from the dead, turned bread into wine, and cured the paralytic. Applied TO.
Then it was a miracle that He got in.

Really folks! Is this where we are on society? Yikes!
What is tacky? I agree that a Go Fund Me would be, but privately helping your god son will college tuition? You're going to have to explain what is ''tacky'' about that.
If he’s going to an out of state state party school over a cheaper in state option, maybe.
But if you are saying family and friends don’t help out a young person, I don’t envy you.

Because for middle class families in state colleges often don’t turn out to be the cheapest route so you cast a wide net?
DP here. I am aware if that but OP specifically mentioned needing to cover OOS tuition, implying that that is more expensive than their instate option.
