I'm the mother of a freshman so can you tell me more?
What are the MCAP graduation requirements?
All I know is it's a new test that the state just made up a year or two ago, and 90% of the kids fail it. The test they were using previously was used nationally and had more like a 70% pass rate.
And the pandemic hit, with MCPS being the last district to open in the second-to-last state to reopen schools. Pearson creates both the PARCC and the MCAP; MCAP is a shorter test, but otherwise very similar.

DC is pissed and really prefers actual learning, especially to prepare for their being the the Blair STEM magnet next year.
Its going to be a huge issue for some kids who aren't being allowed to test at all for the high school programs. We are in virtual and our home school is supposed to test our kids but they will not even respond to emails. I do't see the issue with testing. If your kid is in magnet then shouldn't they be in Algebra2 this year?
No, the only kids who take Algebra 2 in 8th grade are at wealthy Potomac MS, which accelerated 6th graders with sufficiently high MAP scores, or kids who went to a wealthy Potomac ES, which offers AIM in 5th grade. If you live elsewhere in Moco, you're out of luck no matter how high your scores are...
Not true. My 8th grader is in Algebra 2 and he definitely did not attend elementary or middle school anywhere near Potomac.
I'd heard this before, but when anyone asks, they can't name the school because it isn't true.

Yes, I know my child, who also placed distinguished honor roll AMC8 also failed it because, well, it's a new test that hasn't been calibrated.
I wish the state would buy a real test that used nationally instead of just making one up that is completely unproven.
