I bought a used 2011 toyota prius in 2019 which had 157,000 miles on it. My husband thought i was crazy but it was $4,500 and I was tired of my gas guzzler.

It now has 220k miles on it, gets 55/mpg and is the most reliable car I've owned in a long time.

I'm looking for a newer car now because I don't want it to get to the point where it's in need of a lot of maintenance. Looking at newer Toyotas. I'm now a fan.

I had be a driving teen too. And had fully planned to give him my old car and get myself something new/newish. But not in this market. I hope it’s better next year.

Another option is to see what your car is worth (the seller-oriented pricing makes it hard for you to but but good to sell), and add that amount to your budget and perhaps you can get a newer-used prius for you and teen to share. I wouldn’t normally recommend that since sounds like you car works fine, but it also sounds like you may prefer an automatic and the hybrid features.
