OP here.

I saw my doctor via telemed on Monday for a UTI and mentioned my head to him. He thought I was probably fine. My neck was pretty sore then.

It is still sore, especially when I look to the right. How long can I expect this to last? My coworker asked me why I was turning my entire body in meetings. I guess I’m compensating.

It could last a while, actually. If it is still bothering you in, say, a week, you should ask for physical therapy. This is the kind of thing that really benefits from prompt treatment so it doesn't become a big chronic problem.

Yeah try to stop over compensating. Try to move normally.

Unfortunately you should probably go to the ER. They might advise you to get a scan to make sure you don’t have a brain bleed that needs surgery.

The sore neck is whiplash. A mild concussion feels like a hangover. Anything you do to increase pressure in the brain will feel uncomfortable (turning your head quickly, bending over, reading, bright lights). You need to just let your brain rest. Regardless of what you call it, when your brain hits the inside of your skull with any kind of force it causes swelling. Trust me, you have to rest. It will take longer to go away if you don’t. They can’t do much except monitor for a concussion. For a mild concussion (no loss of consciousness, no vomiting) they recommend just rest and ice. I would avoid the radiation of a CT scan unless warranted. Treatment if it IS serious is basically drilling into skull to remove pressure. It’s very limited what they can do except in most severe cases.

And banging you head sounds like not major — usually requires something falling (you or an object) for serious concussion. Now if you are bleeding you may need stitches, so urgent care may be useful. But of you say you are concussed they will send you to ED to wait there because of liability risk.

OP, I would call your PCP's on call number, tell them your symptoms and ask for guidance. They may want you to be seen today or they may tell you what to monitor and see you tomorrow but either way you'll get some guidance.

This is in regard to sports concussions but somewhat challenges the thinking about physical and cognitive rest.

I was whacked in the head a couple of times years ago. In college I had a part time job in a group home for adults with developmental disabilities. I took a resident shopping and when I loaded her into the van (wheelchair lift) I whacked my head hard on the side door frame. Turned out it was jagged and I also cut my scalp. I feel woozy plus could feel blood trickling down the back of my neck as I drove her home, then went to the ER for stitches. My neck and shoulders ached for a couple of days because of the blow and I still felt kind of off but no ongoing problems. Another time I slipped on ice and landed right on the back of my head, hard. Then I was working part time in a nursing home. They had me sit for awhile before I started work, again felt some aches and stiffness but had no problems (I think the back of the head is probably better protected--I felt backwards onto concrete). Third time I was sleeping when a heavy lamp on our headboard felt and clocked me in the head, I had apparently tangled my hand in the cord somehow. Sore scalp. stick neck, etc, felt just kinda dazed for a day, but was fine. IN all these cases I think it was not so much the blow that caused me to feel dazed as just sort of the shock of the event.

Google NAC for post concussion. If you take it in the first 24 hours it has been proven to greatly decrease post concussion syndrome.

I don't know about "NAC" but fish oil makes concussions heal a little faster.
