I am sorry this happened to your daughter. Absolutely go to the ER and demand a plastic surgeon as well. Something similar happened to my child (a friend's dog bit my child's face). We went to the ER and they handled it. We had to advocate for both a plastic surgeon and the speed at which they fixed the damage - they wanted to wait until the next day and we said no. You can barely see the scar now. I can only see it if I am specifically looking for it and squint really hard.

Absolutely - GET COPY OF RABIES VACCINATION. If you must, ask animal police to do it. That's what we had to do. Death By rabbies is horrific. You either get proof rabies vaccination, or your daughter gets rabies shots.

We did this exactly. And the plastics surgeon on call was not on our insurance (that hospital ER was). No scar today, but it was expensive.

Yes, we did have to wait a few hours for the plastic surgeon but they did not stitch DH beforehand. We didn’t get any pushback but maybe because it was larger.

Yes ER and plastic surgeon consult.

I got a gash in my chip, about 1/2 inch recently. I put Doterra Correct X on it, and it was completely healed in about 3 days, no scar. Was a bloody mess. But I'm guessing your daughter's might be deeper from tooth puncture wound. Still, I cannot highly recommend enough how amazing the Correct X worked - can buy on Amazon for maybe $12. I wouldn't expect them to stich an area that small but you want to get it cleaned properly and get some antibiotics. I would just go to a pediatric urgent care.

You don't "wait until morning" for skin that needs stitches. You go right away or ASAP.

This! Wounds that need stitches need to be seen immediately for the best outcomes. Unless you want to deal with scar revisions later on.

Yeah you don't mess with either dog bites or gashes on the face. Both can be tricky and have nasty complications. This is both. I know it's late now but anyone reading this if this happens to you or your kid, don't hesitate, go in immediately.

They probably won’t stitch it because almost all dog bites get infected. She definitely need antibiotics.

First of all, I'm very sorry your daughter was bitten. I was bitten on the face by a friend's pitbull (it was quite traumatic). When at the ER, they did a consult with a plastic surgeon, who I subsequently saw for follow up and months later had surgery on the worst scar (because it was very close to the corner of my eye and had a cyst interwoven with the scar tissue). It was a long process and yes, you need antibiotics, probably both topical and oral, and may need a revision of the scars after they heal. After biting me, the dog also jumped their fence and attacked another dog and it's owner and tunneled under the fence and attacked a neighbor's dog, who required extensive surgery to save it's life.

I’d absolutely request a plastic surgeon. How bad is the bite? And whose dog was this? Poor kiddo.

Eh, while you may think it is reasonable, it isn’t medically necessary to see a plastic surgeon for this. It is purely because you want the best cosmetic outcome. There are not enough plastic surgeons to see every kid with a cut that comes into the ER. It is a privilege if one is available and can see you, truly.
