ah, yes - good ol Grotto. I spent a LOT of time there with the guys from the fraternity I was friends with back home. We even spent time there after our wedding reception (I married a guy who had zero ties to my college or UD)

I never felt unsafe while on or near campus in Newark, but it has been 20+ years - things change

It depends where on campus you are whether things are easily walkable. Pretty sure they have a campus bus system, though.

Again, this is just from me VISITING my friends who went there and my time living nearby (our house was about 15 minutes away) - I attended college out of state.

My DD is looking at Delaware too, is the campus and surrounding area cute and safe? Is it walkable to restaurants etc.? Thanks, DD is only a junior so we have not had the chance to visit yet!

Okay bad choice of words -- just trying to compare to Rutgers. And by the way, I think Newark is lovely!

Rutgers is underrated, with a lovely campus, and New Brunswick a is nice college town. Your DD seems to relish a challenge and there are a wide enough range of students at Rutgers that I think she will do just fine. Lots of NY/NJ kids go to Delaware, but I would choose Rutgers. Congratulations to her on two great choices!

That may be so, connections in terms students traveling back and forth. Rutgers is much better known and established with many alumni working in the NYC metro area. You are quantitatively challenged.

I think they are quite comparable, and both good options! I think she should follow her gut!

I went to Rutgers twenty years ago and I bet your daughter would be fine.

Choose wherever she prefers.

I suspect the difficulty of classes would be indistinguishable at the two. If she wants Rutgers, she should go for it and not worry about not keeping up, she’ll be fine. Also remember at every state uni - including Michigan, UNC, etc - there will be a mix of instate students’ academic levels. She probably needed higher stats to get into Rutgers than most of the NJ students there.
