A K-8 might be OP's best bet at this point since they don't recruit for 6th grade while at the same time losing a few students to local K-12 schools. Norwood, Woods, WES, Lowell, St. Patrick's all fit the bill. OP could try calling Alex Ragone at Norwood, Kim Bair at WES, etc.

Everyone's personal financial situation is different, but we thought 6th grade at Burke was amazing and worth every penny. It's also nice to get in and have a secure spot.

+1. Current 5th grade at Sheridan is a big class.

I agree with PPs that Burke is a good option. I believe they do a second admissions round for some grades.

Burke 6th grade is incredible. The curriculum is very intellectual. The teachers are engaging and very involved. The sense of community is wonderful.

Overall, Burke offers a nice balance. It's less intense and competitive than Big 3 but the top students (some who turned down Big 3) take very challenging courses. College placement is individualized and strong.

If you are open to a commute out of DC I would check out Barrie or Sandy Spring Friends School
