I would ask to meet with the principal or other appropriate official (in my day the Vice-principal doled out justice for these kinds of things). I would just explain your concern about your specific incident and find out what the school’s policy is for disciplinary actions. Who knows, maybe your kid and this other kid never get in trouble at school so they got a pass, or a warning or whatever. But the only way to know what’s up is to talk to the school.
