I believe in this too.

It's not perfect, but try a BMI caliper test to see if you're in a good BMI range and have a good muscle/fat ratio. And yes, muscle weighs more than fat, so if you're lifting weights 2-3x a week, you'll carry 2-3 extra pounds than if you weren't. But you won't look it.

I didn’t actually realize that this could explain the extra 2-3 pounds I’ve been carrying around over the last few years! Good to know.

I don’t go by weight because like PP said, it will go up if you work out more and build muscle tone, which is why I’m not 115 like I was when I was in my 20s. For me, it’s all about whether my dress/pant size is stable and how I look in my clothes.

I’m between 5’4 and 5’5 and was around 115 during most of my 20s. Over the past year I jumped up to 130 and it was very uncomfortable on my small frame. I’m down to low 120s and my goal is to stay around 120 - seem like a healthy weight I can maintain without starving myself.

I'm 53 and 5'4 and weigh 124. I feel good and workout. I'm a size small 4.

As many have said, it depends on your frame and build. I'm 5'4" and small framed. I look best at 115, and my pregnancy weight at nine months was 139. I look gaunt at 107 (which I hit b/c covid stress in 2020), and I look puffy over 120. My guess is PP here looks fabulous in the 130s with a very different frame than I have.

In short, talk to your dr, OP, and take into account your frame.

I thought it was 105 for the first 5', then 5 lbs an inch. So, 140 at 5'7, which I am and everyone tells me I'm soooo thin/ eat a cheeseburger.

I’m 5’4” and am 121. I wear a size 2/26. It’s a weight that works for me. When I was in college, I was more like 5’3” and weighed 105-110, but I also had very disordered eating. I have a much healthier diet now.

Yeah, I'm 1.5 inches shorter than 5'4" and currently at my lowest adult weight, which cannot possibly be below 130. I can feel my tailbone and count every single one of my ribs. Oh, and my thighs don't touch and my waist is 12" smaller than my hips. Everyone is different.

I also think this thread is healthier than most that I've seen.

I am 5'5". I weighed 112 when we got married, and only a little more after I had my three kids -- usually around 115-118. But they are teenagers now and I'm stuck just above 120. I do think I've gained a lot more muscle over the years, which is great, but I also think my middle-aged mom bod is just not meant to ever weigh 112 again.

I never target a weight, I target exercising and eating healthy. Especially with young kids I cannot diet or I’ll get hangry and impatient.

How do you know the difference between muscle and fat weight?
