OP here - thanks all for your thoughts! At this point I think I'll join the waiting list for her first book, and see if I like it at all. Diving into #13/17 just doesn't seem to be working and I want to give it a fair try.

Her early novels were good. She developed some engaging characters in interesting environments, but her most recent efforts have fallen flat. They seem to needlessly and pointlessly pander to current liberal sensibilities, something which had previously not been a feature of her books and which now seems like a self-conscious attempt to be trendy rather than inventive.

I like her metaphors and how she uses them to describe her characters, however the plots seem contrived, not believable and eventually the characters just seen naive, like it is HS. I also feel later in the series the main detectives life just became so dark, so much sinister energy, did not enjoy it. Additionally , the political correctness read like a political add vs. something happening in someones life. I really wanted to like her,

The Hilary Clinton collaboration: I read about one page and said nope, returned to the library.

I’ve never read Penny, but I’m listening to her collaboration with Clinton right now and really enjoying it.

I tried but just can't get through any of her books. Her style is not to my liking and her characters are trying too hard. It seems like I'm reading a High Schoolers atttempt.

I don't know, you seem to have a similar writing style!
