My favorite NYC in 70s and 80s thieves in Parking garages had balls to steal and replace your engine.

Had a neighbor with a new Chevy Impala. Went to city to see Broadway with wife, dinner, stay over and brunch in way home engine felt funny. He took it to dealer.

They took his new engine and replaced it with an old taxi cab engine with like 200,000 miles. Hard to catch then some folks took weeks.

About 3k depending on the vehicle and it’s age.

$3,000 of damage to get less than $100 of gas. ugh.

Not OP but my card doesn't even have a gas cap.

I had it happen at a parking garage in NYC and it was so obvious because it radically changes MPG metrics. Of course they denied it but not much I could do.

No one can siphon gas from my car. It doesn’t use gas.

Nextdoor for my neighborhood has a warning post from our Sheriff's department about this. Apparently they've seen an uptick in the act of siphoning gas.

One street kind of near our neighborhood had 3 cars drained. The security footage is useless.

I remember this from when I was a kid in the 70s.

Sorry OP.
