I used to love VD, but stopped watching after the 2nd season I think because Damon was getting on my nerves always killing with no remorse. I completely get that the guy is a hot bad boy, but he has no morals and Elena with her wishy washy ways was confused over someone who tried to be good versus someone who killed innocent people and just didn't care. Seriously, how many people has he killed already??

I know, I know, it's all fiction, but still, my morals were getting in the way of me enjoying the show for some reason, ha.

I'm watching somewhat dutifully this season, but I really wish Klaus and his hangers-on would go the hell away. I know, I know, we can't go back to the merry carefree days of young innocent vampire love, but the first season was really the best.

OMg im effing obsessed with Stefen. Read the books too! They are so different and amazing!

I'm in my mid 30s and love it too! It brings me back to the days in my 20s when I used to tape Buffy/Dawson's/Felicity. It's so much fun to watch and the guys are so easy on the eyes! I even got my husband and mom hooked!

I watched the first season on your recommendation, OP, and you were totally right! It's completely addictive, and surprisingly good.

I'm a little disappointed in the second season, though. Can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe I'm a "new love" junkie, and not as interested when relationships hit the rocks, or coast along serenely.

I have never been as compelled to watch any show on the box as the freakin awesome T V D. I thought it would be trashy c grade waste of space crap but... it is becoming a problem... im finding myself using lines from the show from Damon. Im a dick haha! Yeah, the "dead blood" was an Anne Rice thing. It was very bad for a vampire's health to drink from a dead person. (Remember when the little girl poisoned Lestat by tricking him into drinking from a dead person?)

Buffy's vampires certainly didn't have that problem. I don't know if it's ever been addressed in the Sookie Stackhouse books/shows.

Heh. So, I was super excited about this show only because I read all the books when I was 13. That was 14 years ago. It was the first "Teen" series book that I read. I LOVED it. now, it's been almost 15 years but I still remember the first 3 (or was it 4?) books. The author is L.J. Smith I think. The two main guys were from Italy, and they were "turned" a long time ago, during the renaissance I think? They thought Katherine comminted suicide becuase they fought over her. The main girl, Elena, was super annoying in the book, I think she was a perfect cheerleader type, blonde, and HAD to have Stefan and make him hers. Very different from the TV show. Damon had special powers and turned into a crow I think....man it's been a long time...haha. I just finished the last Sookie Stackhouse book so I'm trying not to get them confused.

My Husband laughs every Thursday when this comes on, he thinks it's super funny but he goes along with it, haha.

Also, I can't remember where I read this from, but someone asked about that whole period thing. A couple authors said it wouldn't bother them (vampires that they made up) because it was "dead blood".

I have this really gross, long-held curiosity about the modern vampire story, and I've seen/read them all: vampires can hang around with human as long as they don't smell blood, right? When they DO smell blood, they risk losing control. So, recalling a couple of appalling embarssing period incidents (mine and other girls') how is it that menstruating classmates don't drive the vampires crazy every time they have a tampon snafu?

FWIW, I used to watch all the silly shows back when it was the WB. I like to think of this show as Dawson's Creek with vampires. It is a Kevin Williams show, so it makes sense.

If ANY of the "kids" on Vampire Diaries is under 22, I'll eat my hat. I think 25 would be a safe bet, too. If the characters were adults, we'd all be wondering how they manage to have those nice houses when they never seem to go to work, or how come their bosses keep overlooking the fact that they take four out of every five days off to deal with vampire drama, or whatever. Setting these shows in high schools isn't about youth-- they don't even bother to cast HS-age actors. It's just a way to avoid the tedium and responsibility that grownups live with; we all remember how dramatic high school was-- so even if there's no vampire drama this week, they can stress about final exams or something. Also, while adults will happily watch 25-year-olds pretending to be in HS, teens (a very lucrative market) may be less likely to watch adults going to work at an insurance company or something.

If any fans have also read the books, is the show better? Because I felt like I was growing dumber by the second with the books. And I have a fairly high tolerance for trashy books - I loved Twilight, for example.

I love True Blood, the characters are at least out of high school. I can't watch these teen shows without wondering, where their parents are and why are they running around town getting into these life and death situations week after week. Plus, I feel icky lusting after teen boys.
