21:48 now that I think about it, we order out from a local Mexican restaurant every Friday, if we are all home. It didn’t start as a tradition but more as tired from the week and it’s the closest place. I picked my son up from practice tonight and just remembered how he commented in the car how it was Friday and he was looking forward to his burrito. Its a late dinner with both kids and everyone is happy. If someone isn’t home, no big deal.

I think they will remember those simple things.

Same. We are very close now but I didn’t want to do any activities then. My mother still talks about how she’d plan family activities and we would complain constantly. I have tweens and teens now and remember that.

She’s 13. I mean what teen is going to turn down Starbucks before school? It’s really the only thing she agrees to do like that.

With my dad: went fishing and hiking, read and discussed books, built a kayak together and went paddling, did landscaping, and I catalogued his book collection.

With my mom, shopping followed by ice cream.

We did this and it was miserable. All they did was yell at us. Joined every club I could in high school so I could get home late and miss dinner.

+1. I mean we had family dinner together most nights and when we were really little they read bedtime stories to us. But they didn’t take us on any special outings or anything and we didn’t have any traditions like always going out for a meal on a certain day or anything like that. We played sports and they would sometimes come to watch our games but they didn’t play sports w us so it’s not like we were doing that together. I don’t remember them ever playing w us at our house either like my husband and I are constantly playing w our kids—playing w toys, playing board games, playing pretend/make believe games, playing playing catch or soccer in the yard, etc. My parents never did stuff like that.

Ask your daughter for ideas of things she likes to do: play video games? go to a certain restaurant? Get your nails done? And then do whatever that thing is.

Why do you find it weird? My son love going out with us.

My mom took us to the library every week.

Being allowed to stay up late and watch Johnny Carson with my parents on Friday nights or holidays when we didn’t have school the next day. We would laugh and laugh.

Pizza Hut when there was something to celebrate.

We ate dinner together every night as a family.

I had a great childhood.

We'd go to sporting events together or watch them together at home.
