Bucknell's acceptance rate is slightly higher than Richmond, and has slightly lower average SATs. Also, compared to other SLAC's they are not more selective for girls. Nor is Lehigh. So if OP's DD is competitive for UofR, but not certain, they are good alternatives. OP didn't ask for safeties.

Bucknell accept rate is mid-to-high teens just like Richmond. It’s almost identical admissions-wise unless you are applying to Bucknell’s engineering school which is low-teens. Kids who don’t get into Richmond don’t get in to Bucknell. They are listed and ranked together in most writings.

Except at ED at which time Bucknell acceptance is in the 70% range.

Bucknell's acceptance rate is 38%.

In the Fiske Guide, the Richmond overlaps are: UVA, W&M, Boston College, wake Forest, Georgetown, Chapel hill, Villanova, and Notre Dame. But those are all quite selective and OP wants over 50%.

No, it is not in the mid-teens. https://www.bucknell.edu/sites/default/files/institutional-research/Admissions_21-22.pdf

If it's because it's fairly politically moderate, has Greek life and is preppy, maybe Gettysburg or Bucknell again? If it was because it's a SLAC in/close to a city maybe Macalester or Kalamazoo.

All of this of course depends on how close she is to being able to get into U of R.

Macalester, Oberlin, Lafayette and Bucknell all have acceptance rates well below 50% - all in the 30's.

Anonymous wrote:Fordham University. Great Bio sciences program and acceitance rate to med school (if thats your intrest). Acceptance rate around 50%. Protected enclave in a city. Very similar to Richmond academically. I believe it should be ranked far higher but I think the location scares some people - although it should not as its got great security. I was really impressed by this school when my DD looked and was accepted. She probably not going as got into a school ranked much higher (and higher than Richmond) but it was her safety that she would have happily attended.

I love Fordham!

But Richmond makes me think of Elon.

Isn't Reed super lefty whereas U. Rich is more conservative? I wouldn't think it would attract the same type of student.
