Cost of attendance without financial aid and merit scholarships. BC’s aid is worst.

Looking over the financial information for BC. Their tuition went up quite a bit. It is a BIG price tag. Not sure it is worth that kind of $ for my kid.

Rice is $20k cheaper for full pay than expensive schools like Amherst and NYU, which saves about $80k in 4 years. Their financial aid is also phenomenal and other than top income families, most get some aid.

This is the advantage of schools in warm climate, you are away for summer. You are there for most of the harsh winter at colleges in cold climate. It gets depressing.

Our son is a Rice grad. He had a great experience there both academically and socially. He and his classmates have gone on to grad programs in engineering, medicine, law and business; most who started working directly after college went into consulting. The only downside is that most juniors don't have on-campus housing available to them. Wishing your DD the best, wherever she ends up!

DD got into Rice!

GPA - 3.98 UW, 4.53 W (from a top Nova Highschool known for its course rigor)
SAT - 1560 ( single sitting) , ACT - 35
NMF, Good ECs, expected good LORs
It’s been one of her most favorite/ dream schools from the past 2 years and the craziness of this year made us wonder if we should have done ED. Grateful for yesterday's decision

Good write up. My DD is a recent Rice graduate, and we can’t say enough good things about the school. I was so impressed by how closely the academic advisors work with students. The ones she had used their network to help her with internships and her first job post-gradation, and have advised her re the best options for PhD programs. Also, there is so much great food in Houston! I hope my youngest can go there as well.

Rice is great. Very happy kids.


I went to Rice. Loved my time there! Lifelong friends. And no kids with chip on their shoulders like I’ve seen with my DC in NE schools.

I went to Wash. U. I think Rice is probably similar, but in Houston and probably a little more prestigious.

Going there would be comparable to going to Harvard or Yale, but with fewer classmates who are children of heads of state.
