A rusty used Corolla, so he’d have an incentive to finish school and get a job.

I loved my old volvo station wagon but don't feel the new models are reliable enough. It will be a Hyundai or Rav 4.

My car goes 0 to 60 in 2.28 secs. But she records and tracks everything.

Same boat here. I can see pluses and minuses to so many cars. Thinking of a Honda Civic or insight.

Car that is not too big, not too fast, not too unreliable, not too fancy and not too tall (tippy).

So, no Wrangler, BMW, Mercedes, VW, CUV, SUV, pickup truck or Tesla.

I end up with a Corolla or Elantra.
Since money is an object, my kid is driving my old Prius, which is the same age as him.

Some of these posts make me shake my head. You do not buy your newly minted driver a car that can go 0-60 in 5-6 seconds (Tesla) or a car that does not have good safety history (Wrangler). Neither car is known to be reliable either.

we are in the same boat - trying to find a car for our teen. I am also considering the cost of insurance. Insuring a teen on a 2022 car is going to be a lot more than insuring a teen on a 2012 Corolla.

Too tiny for me in a crash. We are going with an SUV - Jeep or VW probably.

So the roads get ever more dangerous. Maybe our grandkids can all drive tanks!

Prove your point with your child if you like- I’ll protect mine.

I probably wouldn't buy one because VWs are expensive to repair and not famously reliable, but my college roommate drove a yellow bug. She was the worst driver I've ever known and people just laughed and waved when she cut them off, smiled at her if she accidentally ran them onto the shoulder, you name it. People were just happy to see the car, and I guess assumed someone cute and young was driving it so the whole car functioned as a "student driver, please be patient" bumper sticker. I think about that all the time - it was like the concept of the car was so cute it defused road rage on sight.

If money were no object and I wasn’t worried about my kid getting spoiled, I’d get them a Tesla.

Yeah I wouldn’t want to get a massive car for my teenager; you can get one that’s plenty safe for the driver and that isn’t highly dangerous for anybody my teenager might hit.
