My MIL has passed on but years later when he’s naughty or annoying he still gets called Cloud by me and an old friend who was around my MIL a lot. So it was a name failure in one sense but still a fond memory of my MIL.

I giggle a little about Nikki because my husband came at me almost 17 years ago now with the name Nikki Marie as a possible option for our first child.

He was immediately removed from the name finding committee and given only veto power.

Our second girl came along several years later and Veronica was a top name choice. We thought we’d call her Nikki for fun, thougg

One of my cousins couldn’t say my name when she was little and called me sha-sha.

It was a family joke for years, but not my actual nickname

My nephew Mathew goes by Mo because his older brother could not pronounce his name. It stuck. He is 30 now

You do not have to use Colie if you do not want it to stick. Let it be just what #1 says. My #1 called #2 Cake (her name is Kate) for a while. We did not reinforce it.

I get feeling non-plussed but agree with others that a small child's nickname is not the same as a nickname that anyone might give a child. No one else is going to call your DD Colie, and this will wind up being a silly family anecdote that your daughters hopefully joke about with each other.

I will add that if you are really worried about this, go hard on teaching your other DD to say Nikki (which will be easier for her than Nicole and feel more fun -- little kids really love two syllable -y nicknames for their singsong quality). Work it into songs, use it yourself. It won't take long before she never remembers saying Colie.

Yep! I have a friend who waobsesseded with not giving her 3 syllable named kid a nickname (think Samantha). Little sister came along and and gave her a NN (think sammy) and mom flipped her lid; and honestly ir ridiculous looking at it from the outside. Its not the mom's name, the kid is healthy and much bigger things to worry about.

My older child called my younger child, “new baby” for a good year.

It is not forever. I called my sister Sarah something like "Soggy" until I was able to say her name, and then it was over except for family reminiscences.
