This is why I think there will be so much pushback- the wealthiest schools will lose the most teachers. Like the poster who said Walls sent an email about it. Walls has too many teachers as is, but parents will freak out if the 7 person niche elective classes are cut.

Do you mean that the schools are charged the actual cost of a teacher rather than a standard amount per position? If so, that penalizes schools that hold onto their teachers for a long time and puts experienced teachers in jeopardy.

What a total disaster. No dedicated money to cover teaching staff. You have got to be kidding. The corruption, pork, and mismanagement of money is just astounding. This, at a time when there has been huge learning losses that will take years and years to recover, if at all due to extended closing of schools in DC.

And instead of providing adequate resources to all schools, they are trying to shift even more resources from some schools to others.

The net effect will be those who have options will go private, charters, or move out of DC. This means even less federal funding and money for the schools.

I found some slides about the proposed model. The main objective is equity and more money is sent where it’s needed. Funds are allocated per pupil, but factors such as ELL or at risk act as multipliers.

I know our school has pushed in lots of recovery resource (social emotional for the little kids and academic for the older children). It's the first time I've seen a comprehensive tutoring strategy for every single kid, even the ones that are above grade level.

DC is not going to use their surplus just to appease a small group of whinny parents in Ward 3. I swear, they love to complain about everything. If there was a spider crawling through one of the fancy elementary schools in ward 3, there would be some parent asking DCPS for a $1 million renovation for pest control.
