Yes you don't have to replace the locks, you can have them re-keyed for pretty cheap.

We talked about this a lot the first year we lived here and then never did it. The sellers lived in CA and we love our neighbors and have already given them a key, so that wasn't an issue.

Day 1.

Our neighbor did not do so and came home one day to find a party in his basement - teenage friends of the former owners kid had a key and let themselves in. Neighbor changed the locks right away after that.

I changed the locks day 1. The realtor selling the house who was a family friend of the sellers told us to specifically. She said that there were probably a lot of keys out there to those locks. We always changes locks Day 1 on future houses.

I scheduled the locksmith for change the locks day after closing, not primarily for security but that all doors were keyed alike.

We hired a locksmith to change the locks ASAP. I wanted high security locks and you can't buy or install those yourself.

Never. Never even thought about it.

If the house had been a rental or a flip, I probably would change the locks.

I never did but I would lie if you asked me.

It's not just the previous owners you need to worry about, it's every random person they may have given a key to over the years: neighbors, family, cleaners, the dog walker, babysitter, .......

Well if they haven't popped in over the last five years, I doubt they'll start now!
