My husband and I agreed that on days that one person goes into work, the other person will work from home. So in case of any emergency, one person will be close.

He keeps on telling me he will be fine and that he's actually looking forward to the long drive, some peace and quiet.
Based on the comments though, I feel like this might get old very quickly....sigh...

You need to look at Chadds Ford with you taking Amtrak from Wilmington. Spending four hours a day in a car will get very old very quickly. At least on the train you can still work and read.

You’re better off living close to one. That way one of you is close some of the time. If you split it, no one is ever close

Baltimore to Newark alone is a long commute. You'll want to go around the south side of Baltimore and the harbor tunnel. And a PP pointed out that tolls both for the harbor tunnel and the Susquehanna bridge will add up. As will the gas and wear/tear on car. Ellicott City is on the west side of Baltimore so it's probably two hours door to door.

If you work in downtown DC within easy reach of Union Station, I'd consider living in Chadds Ford, PA, for the schools. 30 minutes to Newark for your husband. When you need to go into DC, catch Amtrak from Wilmington and work partially on the train. May be worth it to spend one night in DC across the two days.

Another possibility is Bel Air, MD. Schools are fine, especially around Forest Hill. Bel Air to Newark is under a hour as you'll avoid the Baltimore traffic, and you can catch a Marc commuter train from either Aberdeen or Edgewood to DC.

Were you thinking of Ellicott City because of a large Asian/South Asian population? It had occurred to me. You won't find that in Bel Air (there are a few but nothing like Ellicott City).
