+1, this is so weird

You do you. Every guy I’ve been with has opened with something sexier or more classy than shooting pool.

The use of the word classy is a clear tell that you’re not.

As you wish. Enjoy shooting pool.

“I don’t like you that much to agree to pool. Can we do x instead?”

I live in the suburbs and so many guys would invite me into dc for a date (totally normal) but I didn’t have the energy to do that for a first date and used the above line more or less and the guys that were worth my time didn’t care at all to travel to the burbs. It felt high maintenance on my part but I also didn’t care. Going into dc wasn’t worth the hassle.

OP - why wouldn’t you tell him?

I like lunch and museums, but the way you’ve written this makes it sound like you’re an elderly aunt taking your young niece out for the day. “A nice lunch.”

I bet this guy didn’t pick a restaurant because he doesn’t want to pay. Pool is cheap.

I don’t like pool either and have turned down a pool first date more than once. I love a good dive bar, but the emphasis on “we are here to play pool” didn’t strike me. I am deaf on one side and can’t hear well in bars or when people turn their head away from me (such as looking at the table), so I usually explain that and we find another activity.

Her expectation that she have a good time? Nah.

Speak up OP. If he gets offended at you saying you want to do something that interests you, that’s a big red flag.

If it didn't sound fun to me, I'd suggest something else. I don't know where you are, but you could suggest The Board Room, if it is nearby.

I don’t like pool either but I would go because it’s good to have an open mind.
