DC doesn't award punitive damages. Even if it was determined to be DC's fault (it wasn't) the "victim's" family could only recoup what they could legally prove was lost. E.G., future wages, services with a monetary value such as childcare, etc.

As someone who lives off 295 and knows EXACTLY what kind of people constantly speed recklessly on 295 in decade-old thirdhand luxury cars, they'll have a hard time proving any significant loss, since drug and robbery money doesn't tend to leave a paper trail.

DC has a habit of leaving the their vehicles on the highways to harass citizens. That's actually the stated purpose.

Some idiot lib posted a thread here yesterday that these people in this wreck had been “murdered” by the trucker convoy, since DC put the trucks there to thwart the convoy from driving into DC. If there wasn’t a convoy, the truck wouldn’t be there, there’d be no crash, ergo, the truckers murdered these people.

I have no affiliation with this company. I merely asked Google about compensation in DC for auto accidents.

Read that DC has lots of accidents due to lots of tourists, so the laws are stricter regarding compensation. If you bear no fault at all for the accident you might get some compensation, but not much.

Anyone can sue anyone and is likely to get a settlement. So that's probably what they'll do

To me, it seems like the Toyota MR2 driver has the best case but not in suing DC, in suing the BMW's insurance.

I don't think the dump truck was on the shoulder... it was in the "fork" where the exit splits off from the freeway.

The chevron striped area like this? Yeah, sounds like the BMW driver effed up fatally. That striped area is not a lane for driving/traffic.
