My kid's school mails report cards home, so I know his GPA....does your kid's school not do that? Or do you just not open it?

Good luck to all. JMU is a great school for the right kid. If your kid gets in, just know the school thinks they're the kind of person who "holds doors for others."

I know it's changed a lot in the past couple of decades, but I'm a "Double Duke" (BA mid-90s, MA mid-00s) from a rural public in VA.

I was at the top of my HS class (but not valedictorian), and most everyone called JMU "Just Missed UVa" at the time. Basically, it was the school for smart liberal-artsy kind of kids who wanted a "big college" experience.

Wow! JMU is tougher than I expected. I hope your kid is happy with another option that he has.

This was probably yield protection.

Being first deferred and then waitlisted made it super easy for my kid to decide to commit to another school that DID accept her. She was torn between JMU and and a school out of state, and being waitlisted made the decision an easy one. She is happy, and we are happy!

Being on the Common App for the first time really drove up applications this year. JMU definitely pulls from the waitlist. Wishing you all good news soon.
