Huge changes on the horizon and they are dealing with their entire support system (their friends, not you) blowing apart. There is a lot of drama Senior Year, especially at the end of Senior Year. If it isn't happening to your student, which I doubt, it is happening to their friends. Huge issues they are working through that are much more important to them than classwork.

Hugs. We are experiencing the same thing. It's absolutely heartbreaking, but totally normal. Everyone says your old kid returns from college around Thanksgiving, so I'm hanging onto that hope.

Haven't heard this but please be true!

My son keeps saying he is going to miss me. He is my youngest.

They aren't going to rescind offers unless she fails and has disciplinary issues.

Is this true? what about a 2.0? Not kidding. Maybe like a 2.3. Not for top schools or anything, but some respectalbe state flagships that are in nearby states.

It’ll be ok it’s a bit of an urban myth. Everyone claims they know someone this happened to but no one actually does. Disciplinary actions could be an issue though.

I actually do know someone.

Name the school and year or it didn't happen.

It’s a really weird time in a kids life and they do start to pull away to try to lesson the pain of the eventual break come August, even subconsciously.
He’ll come back to you but you have to let him do what he needs to do which is often not what we need from them.

It was called the "Senior Slump" when I was in HS in the 80s. It's very real.

They just can't let their grades fall too much because colleges can revoke admissions.

This. Know a kid who entered college on probation due to letting grades drop final semester. Received strong letter from college after final HS grades came out.

I’m a teacher and have never heard of a single offer getting rescinded. I’ve been teaching seniors for almost 20 years. Some are working still but many are doing absolutely nothing. It’s normal. They need the credits to graduate and that’s about it.

For bright kids who have worked their butts off the past 4 years, including getting through 2+ miserable years of covid, Let. It. Go.

My kid did the same last year (pretty sure one AP teacher passed him just to be rid of him). Same kid is a freshman in college earning straight As again.
