I remember telling my dad, I bought a car (sort of, more like a loan right), and you don't have to be on the loan. I did it all myself. He was proud. Then, showing my friend a brand new civic. CIVIC, not even an Accord. But, I did it all myself after some research.

I generally agree with you - we have bought three used cars in a row after the first four were new - but this is a really weird time and buying used is really difficult at the moment.

yes, yes, yes. don't need all the money in the world, but need enough that when a crisis like this hits (and it is a crisis if this is your only mode of transportation), you are able to solve it and quickly.

Get what you are saying but also know that if one bought of string of lemons as they could only afford used, then the ability to buy new feels like a form of insurance.

For sure!! Omg, when I was poor I felt like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders with money worries. And not having that stress definitely makes for a happier life.

+1 I was actually pretty miserable when I was poor, and when I started making really good money, I could travel and do stuff. I am not materialistic, but the freedom that comes with having money is great.

Congrats OP. I drove a clunker in my early 20s. It would stall in the middle of the road all the time, and as a young female, it was really worrying. I didn't live in a nice suburb, and I was commuting to college.

I just bought a new subaru a couple of years ago when my old one started having issues (18 yr old car). Bought it all cash with the features I wanted (and some I loathe, but that's for another thread).
