I love everything Robin McKinley has done including Sunshine. Maybe it is the best vampire standalone. But Vivian Shaw's "Dr Greta Helsing" series is the best vampire series 🙂 Book 1 is called Strange Practice.

I love Brandon Sanderson. The Mistborn Trilogy and the Stormlight Archive are terrific.

I agree with Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn and Stormlight Archives - I really enjoyed those.

Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy and subsequent sets of books (I think a total of 16) was also really enjoyable. There are multiple sets of books, each a trilogy, set in the same world, and with some crossovers, but they can generally stand alone as well. I recommend starting with the Farseer trilogy, then moving on to the Liveship Traders, The Tawny Man, The Rain Wild and finally Fitz and the Fool books.

I love the Raven Cycle! The audible version is outstanding.
I’ve loved every book Seanane McGuire has written. The InCryptid series is a good intro.
Also love Kelly Armstrong, especially the Cainsville series.
Can’t go wrong with Faith Hunter or Ilona Andrews either.
Keri Arthur is hit or miss for me, but I think the Lizzie Grace series is good. It has an excellent depiction of female friendship.

Guy Gavriel Kay - everything, but start with the Finovar Tapestry.

T. Kingfisher - most (not the horror, for me) but try the Clocktaur Wars / Paladin series, Minor Mage, or Wizards Guide to Defensive Baking.

If you like adult material in your fantasy, Kristen Callihan"s Darkest London series.

I am also a big fan of the Wheel of Time (both books and the Amazon television adaptation) but the books can feel a little dated today.

S.A. Chakraborthy's City of Brass trilogy
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon, includes dragons one book but it's 1,000 pages long, so may as well be a trilogy

Oh if you like fantasy feel sci fi have you tried Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan Saga?

Lois McMaster Bujold has other books which are straight fantasy— the Chalion books are great and the Penric books are good too.

JK Nemisin, Inheritance series (first book The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms) (I found her Broken Earth series too post-apocalypic for my taste)

Mary Robinette Kowal, Shades of Milk and Honey (Jane Austen plus magic)

Jacqueline Carey, Starless (standalone fantasy), or Kushiel series (adventure with BDSM)

Juliet Marillier, Sevenwaters series (vaguely Arthurian)

Brandon Sanderson, Mistborn series (the first trilogy is apocalyptical but I didn't find it that dark or depressing)

Not OP but I love this thread! So many of these I haven’t read/heard of and I love fantasy. Thanks for starting it, OP!

Do you like classic sci-fi? Isaac Asimov's Foundation series is great. (Not new I know but no one seems to read his books anymore)
