Also, it is not correct English to say "I'm embarrassed of my car". You could say "My car embarrasses me." or "I find my car to be embarrassing." YWIA

OP, I drive a 2012 Crapwagon. It's dented. It smells funny even though I had it detailed recently (there was a slightly food-related disaster that permeated the upolstery). It's a REALLY ugly color (which was very appealing when I had a new driver at home who I didn't want to like our car too much).
It's also paid off, works, and can carry a ridiculous amount of cargo. People do tend to also stay out of my way on the road...
Take a deep breath and don't sweat it. Get it detailed if you like, it'll feel nice.
...and I forgot to mention that the 2012 vintage seems positively shiny new to me, since when I bought it used I was replacing a 1997 model. OP, I promise nobody cares.

My 2006 minivan has nearly 200,000 miles and still gets me where I need to go. I recently test drove a new minivan, but I’d rather keep the $50k.
As I get older, I’m less interested in buying new stuff. I would much rather have financial freedom, no debt, and money to spend on experiences rather than things. After dealing with settling my parents estate after they passed, I want to live simply and have less stuff. We can’t take it with us when we die.

Yeah, I have a 2007 civic that I bought from a friend. The outside has some discolored, sun-damaged places and the inside will never be clean. I'm thankful for it. It's a working car I paid for with cash but would love to have a car that was generic and fine rather than an obvious trash car.

I love my old car. I worked hard for it. It was my first car. And it's great without a car payment. Won't be getting one soon because the lots are empty and they are highlighting on electric cars. I hope my 15 year old car will last me 5 years. It should if I drive it enough and don't let it sit there for weeks.

I hear you OP, I love my 2011 Chevy HHR but let's be real-it's no looker LOL.
The PP who suggested a good detailing and new mats/accessories is right! I'm planning to get the headlights polished soon, they get foggy and yellowed. Walmart auto buffs them for like $50.
I mean, yeah I would like a new hybrid electric vehicle, but for now-no car payments in forever has been awesome!

This. I saw that the price of a used American minivan is up 69% over the last year. This is not the time to get a new/used car if you don’t have to.
Fwiw, I grew up with parents who drove cars into the ground. It was terribly embarrassing to me. They were not car people and didn’t care. I cared, and now I drive very nice cars because I can easily afford it. Don’t sacrifice retirement or anything like that for a nice car.

I drove a Ford Focus for 17 years. While I would have liked a new car, I also had a sense of pride to keep it going.
