Yep. So you could be one of the 250 #1's or #251. There is no #2.
It's crazy. My kid's private is old school and there is one Valedictorian and one Salutatorian. There are 1,100 students.
I was in Ffx Co in the 80s at a high school of 2K and we had a single Valedictorian.
I think grade inflation and everyone gets a trophy colors it.
I graduated from Robinson HS in the late 80s and we had multiple valedictorians and salutatorians. I think my senior class had around 1K students. It's been dumb for a long time.
I think multiple valedictorians is ridiculous. In the old days, there might have been 2 students who tied for the spot. But with today's grading and AP courses, etc., having 200 so-called valedictorians is absolute nonsense. GPA's should speak for themselves on a student's transcript and applications. However, I don't see anything wrong with "ranking" students' GPAs so that students can determine where they stand/finished among their peers. It does mean something to be in the top 10% of your class, or the top whatever % -- but based on GPA, not 200 students with "#1" status then the 201st student gets the ranking of 201. That student had the 2nd highest GPA and should get that acknowledgment.
