Nope, just figure it out I traveled as a backpacker for a few years continuously in the late 90s, so it's still in my blood lol. I try to map out a route and if needed, domestic flights- but except for the first couple nights we book places to stay when in country.

I should have elaborated a bit more. For example, Laos- I did a lot of googling for "3 week itinerary Laos". Settled on a tentative itinerary (when only 2-3 weeks you need to plan a bit). Found flights to Bangkok were much cheaper, so did an internal flight to Chiang Rai, and crossed by land, then overland/boat back to Bangkok.

HHI around $200K, one kid

We account for about $2,500 for a 5-day summer trip (driving distance).

In addition, if expenses allow, we probably spend another $1,500 - $2,000 on a couple of long weekend trips.

Starting this year and going forward, we're trying to save up for a bigger trip ($5k - $10K) every 2-3 years.

we budget 15-20k, normally one international trip involved. Family of five. HHI is about 400. We do feel like living in a very tight budget.

We spend less than $5,000 in a normal year. PreCovid, we went to Mexico for a week ($2500) in early December and stayed at a Marriott. We’d rent a house in Michigan for a week every summer ($1500). And then we’d fly to Florida in the spring and stay with family for long weekend ($500 per trip). Possibly a long weekend elsewhere in the fall ($500).

We keep it really simple and don’t do extravagant dining out, car rentals, or excursions, etc. We do healthy fresh meals and local outings (beach, boat rides, horseback riding, hikes, berry picking, etc).

This works for now. We have childcare expenses still. We will probably start doing more real travel again when that concludes.

This is ridiculous! Most threads on here have people saying they are "middle class" and need to budget very carefully (even at 300K hhi) for things like travel. Suddenly everyone is saying "no budget". Is this because of Covid? No one travels anymore and no on can really remember that they used to have a travel budget? I'm genuinely interested in what's going on here.
