Such a stupid comment. This will never happen. The nominee will be Trump or DeSantis.

I think you'll be surprised. As a moderate, I'll happily cross parties and vote for Youngkin. But never Trump or DeSantis.

I would cross lines to vote against him. Youngkin is a hated figure in Va and moderates will not vote for him. He is running for president and will continue his radical agenda.

Radical agenda Anything that isn't paying money out to lazy UMC parents who WFH is a 'radical agenda' in your mind. Can't wait to see the Democratic party (MY party) walloped again - they haven't yet learned their lesson from the VA Gubernatorial election and San Francisco School Board recall.

Moderate Democrats don’t decide who wins the Republican nomination.

You're right - they don't.

This is more about trump being done vs republicans not wanting to destroy the country. Oh and no moderate dem would even consider voting for youngkin. Maybe a a “moderate” trumper would but not a moderate democrat.

Anonymous wrote:Nothing surprising to me in this poll. It suggests:

1) Most bonafide Rs support him
2) Most bonafide Ds oppose him
3) Others, including perhaps some who voted across party lines, are waiting a bit before casting judgment

There is no longer any such thing as "bonafide Rs" - there are now only loud vocal MAGAs who have no vision or principles, only knee-jerk reactionary behavior, versus the more principled old school Republicans, most of whom are too ineffectual, weak and timid to speak out and take their party back from the Trumpsters.

The kind of parents that support Youngkin’s more divisive measures can’t be silenced enough. They are embarrassing themselves and their children.

Bailing out on his first term ever if elected office won’t be a good look in a presidential campaign.

Its the smart thing to do - he can't run again in Virginia and when its over, he'll either be President or Governor. Can't beat those odds.

He needs to take the senate to get his agenda through. He won’t do that if he’s underwater

+1. He is focusing on the wrong things if he wants to retake the Senate. Per the article:

63% support teaching how racism still impacts American society. 57% oppose a ban on teaching CRT. Youngkin went against all of these voters when he made multiple attempts to ban “divisive” topics in schools.

45% of voters do support repealing the grocery tax, but few Virginia voters want to use the surplus to fund it. 59% want the surplus to be used for government services like education, public safety and social services. Youngkin will need to raise taxes elsewhere to make up the lost revenue if he wants to maintain voter support for repealing the grocery tax.

56% of voters think decisions about mask mandates in schools should be made at the local level based on local health conditions. Youngkin thumbed his nose at the majority of a Virginia voters by taking away local control.

Two thirds of Virginia voters support Virginia remaining in the RGGI and passing the Virginia Clean Economy Act. Youngkin has already made multiple attempts to undo them.

More than half of Virginians oppose a six-week abortion ban and requiring an ultrasound before a woman can have an abortion. Youngkin will lose more ground if he tries to go there.

63% support teaching how racism still impacts American society. - Of course this should be taught, and it should include all forms of racism exhibited by all races and not just the white man against blacks.

57% oppose a ban on teaching CRT. Youngkin went against all of these voters when he made multiple attempts to ban “divisive” topics in schools. - CRT should be taught as a theory, not as a truism. Just like other sociological and economic theories. The key with teaching theories is balance.

People will also support lower taxes until you explain the trade-offs. This is a useless question and a useless effort (to repeal the tax) if you ask me. I agree that this is not a winning / compelling thing to focus on.

56% of voters think decisions about mask mandates in schools should be made at the local level based on local health conditions. Youngkin thumbed his nose at the majority of a Virginia voters by taking away local control. - I think focusing on mask mandates was a waste of time. With the rate of change and lack of precedent on this epidemic, not sure anyone really knows what they are doing (localities or state). However, there is a lot of movement within the state so thinking this can be decided purely at a local level is a bit pollyanna-ish. However, I don't think this issue endears Youngkin or the R's to most, as this poll suggests.

Two thirds of Virginia voters support Virginia remaining in the RGGI and passing the Virginia Clean Economy Act. Youngkin has already made multiple attempts to undo them. - Again, I agree this is a losing topic for Youngkin and the R's

More than half of Virginians oppose a six-week abortion ban and requiring an ultrasound before a woman can have an abortion. Youngkin will lose more ground if he tries to go there. - Definitely a losing topic for Youngkin and the R's. This is such a waste of time subject. Abortion should be legal thru the first 24 weeks but clinics and related should not be funded for by the state. However, insurance and medicaid should cover like most medical procedures. R's need to stop focusing on this subject. It is a loser.
