I hope that is true …. but if it is, why would they do the merger now instead of over the summer and start in the fall with the consolidation of the teams? The timing doesn’t make sense.

Don’t know about this year. But strongly believe they will keep 1 team per grad year going forward. The whole purpose of the merger is to concentrate talent in Virginia. Having two teams per year defeats that purpose. Kids that don’t make it will have to apply to TRW or Top Caliber.

Curious how families who were unhappy with Cavs and went to VLC will feel about this merger.

^this. I would be smart for the CAVs girl program to merge with another program. No need to try to go it alone. 3D would make the most sense from a proximity stand point.

With news of The St James starting a boys club, will be interesting to see what happens there? Maybe a buy of Top Caliber?

Curious if VLC Will move to multiple team per grad year format though, similar to what Cavs did for certain grad years having an A team and B team. Or, starting in the fall will they have everyone try out and field one team per year?

This move allows VLC to push into the younger age brackets, which they never previously had and allows the the CAVS players to remain in the same program instead of moving programs at the 5/6/7 grade level.

Cavs 2029 team is already strong, and will be a plug and play for VLC. The 30 & 31 Cavs teams will do the same, but neither of those years is as strong as the 29.

The move also consolidates strong coaches, which are becoming in even shorter supply in the region for boys players. More and more programs going the Dad coaching route.

This is a great move for VA lacrosse, and improves competition for the entire region.

Maybe Crabs guy wants to add girls in the future or maybe the girls can still run as an independent club

Seems like a wasted opportunity for the girls side to consolidate as well. Cavs girls program should def find a landing place for their teams if the whole point of boys program merging was to undilute the market

Unless you live next to Cavs field, why would anyone stay on Cavs now for the girls program? Even YJMA has surpassed them.
