I think a lot of her music is best appreciated by Black people. I didn’t get it until I saw a Black woman analyzing it and I was like, oh, that makes sense.

But the treatment of her as a songwriting genius and performer for the ages...is far out of proportion to the actual content of her songs and albums. Not every solid singer/songwriter also has to be held up as some kind of genius.
I used to think this.... But during the pandemic, her albums Evermore and Folklore really hit me perfectly. Now I'm addicted. It's a little more folk/country, but not really pop. If you like Tori Amos, etc I think you might like these albums too.

Beyonce -- her music is fun, but I don't get the "Queen Bey" levels of worship for it

What don't you like about her?
Her music.
