I understand this but guarantee you’ve had plenty of drivers decline your order. Just like you want to make sure the driver does a satisfactory delivery, the driver may not want to play luck of the draw that you’ll actually end up tipping vs being a cheapo, hence wasting time taking your order.

+1. We always tip well and never have a problem getting a driver in a timely manner.

In that case, I would mention the customary tip once as an FYI as to why the order is delayed. Is the delay causing a problem with your child’s schedule? If not, I would let it go. She has her own account so it shouldn’t affect your ability to get deliveries when you tip well on your own account.

It’s not your business but that wouldn’t stop me! It doesn’t have to come across as judgmental, if you’re otherwise respectful and kind and a good employer I think sharing info about tips is fine.

Op here. I had an opening today but just couldn’t say anything. There was no non awkward way to ask her to tip, I just don’t know what to do.

Oh, I would absolutely bring it up with her. I'm a nanny that had to supplement delivering for Uber Eats when the pandemic started, going on for a year. Tips are HUGE for income. I learned so much. And correct, the orders that would come in showing little to no tips, I'd automatically decline. These drivers are independent contractors and can pick which orders they want to take. Sometimes UE would increase pay on an order if it doesn't get a driver for a while but not often. Quite a few times I'd come to a location to pick up an order and be told by an employee how long it was sitting there.

I would bring it up roundaboutly when she’s waiting for her food.

“I noticed it takes a long time for your food to get here. That used to happen to me before I realized that the driver can see what tip you leave before they pick up your order. Ugh, american tipping culture, so annoying, amirite? Generally if we leave 20 percent the food gets here much faster”
