As someone who went to a HS that had actual gangs, of course, I wouldn't want to live in an area with gang activity, but I'm just wondering what proof there is of gang activity in some of these cities.

Look up local news. They busted a major cartel in VA and it was underreported nationally. Google the area to exhaustion of the results. Check local papers and crime stats. Google drag racing and ATVs and the area

First of all, drag racing is not indicative of gang activity. I'm not sure why you would think that. Did you watch too much Fast and Furious?

I look at the local news, and while there is crime everywhere, that doesn't mean ALL crime is related to gang activity.

So, I'll ask again... where exactly are we seeing gang activity? I'm not saying it doesn't exist. I'm asking specifically where the gang activity is taking place.

I’ve lived in the same house in 20906 for almost 20 years and have no clue what OP’s talking about. My neighbors are all decent hardworking family people and their kids go to school and college.

Schools in these areas have gang members. That's the concern.

Just ignore OP. Trust me it’s not worth coddling any of these posters’ feelings at the expense of your family. Very liberal here, cannot stand ATVs, moved to a lovely quiet upper NW area.

At some point we tried to live in an area with some gang activity and more criminal activity. We were young and idealistic. It was incredible how much stress came off when we moved. You don’t even realize you’re living under siege mentality when you have to worry about that type of a thing.

No regrets.

Your question about “gangs” is an odd one, in part because it seems to assume that gangs have defined geographical boundaries that will be permanent for the duration of however long you decide to own your house. It also doesn’t take into account a lot of other disruptive / safety issues that have nothing to do with “gangs”. OP, if you, instead, frame this as looking for neighborhoods with long-standing histories of being “safe” or having low levels of violent crime or crime in general, you might get more useful information vs framing your concerns focused solely on “gangs”.

I was in on that other thread and while I’m sure there’s some gang activity around the metros late at night, I don’t really see it and I haven’t encountered it personally. I think you are overthinking this based on stereotypes of gang activity in South Central LA in the 80s or something.

You are likely to find gang activity near all of those metro stations late at night.

I live in HVL and I’d never heard those two gang names mentioned before. MS13 yes, but that activity tends to be out in Riverdale towards Kenilworth and the parkway.

As a Rockville resident, this is news to me. Where in Rockville are the gangs? Can't speak to the other cities, but I have never felt or seen any gang activity in Rockville. Where and what gangs are these?

BTW I grew up out west with real gangs in schools in the 80s/90s.
