There is no student parking. Some students who drive park on side streets a 10-15 minute walk away.

Yes, there are two parking garages. The garage on the same side of the street, I believe, is primarily used by staff. There is a second one across the street that they ask visitors to use. With the validation, the parking is free.

As mentioned, there is validated parking available in two parking garages. Validation = FREE. I sometimes don't feel like parking in a garage so I opt to plop a quarter in the meter and park there instead. Yes, it costs me a quarter instead of parking in the free garage, but that's my choice. Also, this is middle school and high school we're talking about. You do realize you don't have to actually park and get out of the car? Your kid can just meet you outside so again, it's FREE.

I have a junior there and I don't think that is true....

This was my kid’s experience. She left for high school.
My kid never considered leaving. She loves the school. While HB is small, kids seem more likely to branch out to make friends in other grades, and also new kids come into the school in 9th grade, which brings some welcome new blood.
Yes, a few kids do leave to get a broader social experience. While you can play sports at your comprehensive high school, if you want to go to school with your friends on your team, you aren't going to get that at HB.
Also, the comprehensive high schools do offer a lot more class options so it's worth pulling up the program of studies from HB and comparing it to the program of studies at the comprehensive high schools as you make your decision. HB does not have intensified classes. Also my kid's AP class at HB mixes the AP kids in with kids taking the regular class all in the same classroom with the same teacher. We did not know that going in so this was a surprise to us, and it's not the type of AP experience I had in high school, which was a separate class.
We love HB and these tradeoffs are more than worth it to us. Just good to have full info going in.
This is true for some AP classes, but not all.

Those spots out front can get filled up especially after hours when you're trying to pick your kid up late from theater practice.
Not a dealbreaker at all. We love the school. Just something to be aware of.

I’m excited that my kid got in. Our biggest fear in APS is that our kid will quietly slip through the cracks. This seems less likely at HB, and that is reason enough to enroll. We’ll figure out the parking and sports as we go.
