This is a good description. They are performers, working the crowd. People fall for it. Unfortunately not genuine people, or good with long term relationships

Interesting how PPs above seem to know so much they can make vast, gross generalizations about every musician everywhere.

Sorry if the two PPs had bad experiences with musicians themselves, but their personal experiences are not universal truths applicable to every musician, everywhere.

My own experience, having dated a couple of excellent amateur musicians and married one, is that the ones I've known were genuine people, not out to "work the crowd" for money ("Pass the hat," first PP? Seriously? Are you 90?). Sure, some were well aware that women found it attractive when they played, but that seemed to be more of a bonus, not the reason they played. No one's there to hear you practice or swoon over you when you're messing up for hours on end trying to get something just right. The playing is done for its own sake--at least, for those who actually do play, and not just mess around at the occasional party.

As for not being "good with long term relationships," I'll get back to you on that. My DH and I have only been married for 30 years so I guess the jury's still out on whether that's long term enough for you. Of course, I'm not saying my experience defines every musician everywhere. I'll leave that to the two PPs.

You sound very defensive. Are you perhaps the musician you’re talking about in third person?

+1

Also for me personally I’m not very musical but I wish I was so naturally musicians are attractive.

I am not into musicians. I dated a few. In my experience, most of them got into music as way to pick up women. Nothing wrong with that of course, but not my cup of tea. The musicians that I have known have tended to be self-absorbed as well.

I'm not attracted to all musicians, but I do think it's extra special when a guy I'm into.is.musical. I think for me it's the creativity/ artistry and since I have an artistic side I appreciate.

My uncle and two male cousins are guitarists. They can easily add life to the party, capture everyone's attention and get people moving. Lots of women like that.

Anonymous wrote:I went to many parties with my cousin and at parties where there is an acoustic guitar, it didn't take long for him to play a few songs by Vanessa Carlton, Maroon 5, Shawn Mendes, etc... After that, it is like shooting fish in the barrel for him. He has no shortage of women who want to sleep with him. He admitted himself that he is not good looking by any means but apparently it really does not matter. I am so jealous of him. What makes a guitarist so attractive?

Music is very emotional. It’s very wonderful to experience something moving.

I think attraction to talent and passion is pretty universal. Kind of like why women are attracted to successful and rich men.

The funny thing is that many of them are in tune with their emotions but unable to express them verbally. They express themselves musically.

It makes it seem like they’re in tune with their emotions (unlike so many men), plus when music makes you feel good you have positive associations with the person the music comes from.

But many women who dated somebody in a band wound up marrying somebody less exciting but more emotionally stable.
