So she grew up in Queens, can put on a Queens accent, and can also put on a regular accent. (I grew up in Texas and can put on a Texas accent but I don't really talk like that, here.)

She just sounds like she screamed a lot at a concert and her voice is hoarse.

There’s really no symbolic, great story to that. I just really thought it was funny when people try to subtilize products like Neutrogena. Because I just imagine someone sitting there thinking about all these weird names, especially the water names. But anyways, I just came up with it when I was sixteen and thought it was really funny. And then I eventually adopted it. People started calling me that name and I was like, “I can’t believe they’re actually calling me this f**ing name, it’s so stupid.” But I don’t even care. There’s no difference.

She also seems smarter than the average movie star when I see interviews with her.

She's from Queens. This is how people talk there. And I don't hold her responsible personally for a character she's played. I think this is a total non-issue.

I don’t see the big deal in how she talks or her name. She’s unfunny but harmless.

OP if you're going to accuse someone of racism, you need to be more specific. What are you talking about???

I think Awkwafina has been amazing for the Asian community in showing that we're not just the nerdy smart kids that are good at math.
