It's not "cheap" to not be paid enough to pay your own bills and a living wage for a second adult, it's just sad.

Someone will take her job offering. No one is forcing someone who wants more money to do so though.

IMO, find a youngish empty nester who can't/doesn't want to work FT. My mom babysat for low pay because she was not educated, and stopped working FT but wanted the extra cash.

She mentions her husband is deployed so if she lives on/very close to a military base she could probably get another military spouse who also has a young kid to watch her kid. The "side money" as she calls it, would be perfect in that situation.

PT childcare is always a struggle. No one can live off of 4 hr/day work so unless she finds someone who is really just doing a job for fun (not likely), she’s going to be out of luck because any good employee will find something full time.

She she do what a lot of working moms do…take advantage of a stay at home mom. They work for free.

Parents always say their child is the most precious thing on earth…but their behavior surrounding paying for childcare belies this claim. SMH.

If it were a low col area she wouldn’t be having the problems of sitters not showing up. It’s clearly her rate and attitude.

Might this be in a very low-COL area of the country?

+1

I'm in a couple of mom Facebook groups that lean more towards religious, conservative, low cost of living areas of the country, and most of them are paying $8-12 per hour for a nanny. $15 is considered extreme. I've actually stopped contributing to any threads about nanny costs because my $25 per hour is so far from what's typical that it derails the whole thread with confused, flabbergasted people.

I don't think she got the memo about the "Great Resignation".
