They see trends. I see it among peers and colleagues' kids. It makes sense, somebody raves about it-- a sibling, friend, etc. they visit...it creates a buzz.

So name one.

I did. U Mich AA.

I graduated from high school in 1991 and it was a popular school back then. THat's not new.

Tulane has been popular around here since I went to college back in the stone age.

Exactly. College applications have been going on since before many on this board were born and definitely before they started thinking about where their own kids might go.

It only seems like a "fad" because otherwise you're mainly out of the loop. That's all, it's perception not reality.

Radford. Do people still apply there??

When I was at a Fairfax Co HS in the 80s--a big number of people went there. I have never heard it on anyone's college list in the last decade.

Christopher Newport. I'm a native NoVA born and raised and I had never heard of this school until about 2 years ago.

Elon is what I thought of when I saw this question. I had family there when the school (and town) were Elon College, and it was bizarre to see it suddenly on everyone's radar when no one from my NC high school class of 2000 ended up at Elon. I guess it's got more staying power, but it very much felt like a fad when it started.

Its a great school, but statistically crazy how many in my immediate area half-way across the country are going there.

My W high school sent 12 kids to Michigan in 1989. It's been hot around here for ages.
